I have to apologise to Ste, the owner of Bases4War; for the delay in posting up something about his contribution to the event. I recently suffered a mild TIA, which in simple terms is a form of stroke. Unfortunately it has had other effects on my health, which have put me behind on a lot of things.
Ste send us over 50 bases, in 40mm and 50mm sizes. They are perfect for wreck markers, so it is the plan to give some of these away to ever player who attends the Scottish Masters. I’ll be doing a review of them later, when I get some time to do some painting; but I can safely say that the quality is way beyond what the website shows. I’ll be looking into getting some of these myself, in the future. Just to tease you a little, here is one of each base size.
Last month I mentioned a delivery, which I had been expecting for a while. Thankfully it arrived a few days before I headed to the Nationals, so it gave me time to clean them up in the hotel.
Gamers of a certain age, will recognise the similarities with a children’s cartoon from the 1980’s. So to get the chance to pledge to a Kickstarter with models that looked similar to those characters; was just a must have.
The wizard model at the back will be my Painting Oath pledge for July, though I will hopefully be painting them all this month. I would like to add a special thank you to the guys at Impact Miniatures, who were very helpful and efficient; when a problem arose with the delivery. Now I’m off you watch the boxset of said cartoon, which my loving wife bought me several years ago (she says I look like Presto).
With just 16 hours till I start heading to the UK Nationals, I am still busy painting models. This has been hard, long and in many respects; rewarding month (and a bit) of achievements.
With just the final Harrower to finish, I will have painted:
2 x Seether
2 x Harrowers
Blood Witches (not finished)
That isn’t including the repairs to DJ, Malice Morty; with marking the bases on all the new models painted and ones that I need at the weekend. Tonight I am going to slowly paint this last Harrower, then get an early night; say about 2am. So to all those who will face me across the field of battle at the weekend…….please don’t hurt me too much; or you will have my wife to deal with mwaaahhh!
Just a week to go, before I am heading down to the UK Nationals. It’s a sell out event with all 128 places taken, Iron Gauntlet close to filling out and lots of cool prizes up for grabs (they tease us and won’t tell us what).
I’m still busy painting models, with a couple of new ones (Malice and Machine Wraith) still to be painted. The Kraken is waiting on water effect for the base; which will hopefully get done on Wednesday. Just finished today, is the second Seether:
As well as the last 4 Mechanithralls for the full unit:
Another tournament in Glasgow this Sunday, so it’s all go for the final push to next weekend. I’ve not painted this much in a very long time, but the pressure to have a fully painted army; is making me push myself….which has been a good thing for me as I’ll explain later.
Painting Oaths has been a positive influence, not just to my painting; but also my personal life. So to have this group pushing me and making me grow as a painter, has been a tremendous benefit to me. This month has been the hardest month so far, with regards to model choice and the sheer effort it has taken; to master even a little of the skill involved in freehand. There is no way I would have done it without this group, so thanks again guys and gals.
So the month started out like this:
Barring some touch ups and completing the base, my oath is complete for June. Included is freehand work for the Secret Ingredient, of Skull and 2 Cryx faction symbols (10 images):
