ETC’s 2012 – The Colossals

I was going to talk about the models, but I think the effects of the weekend are still in effect.  There was only one model that was dominant in discussions between players – The Colossals.

In particular the Cygnar Stormwall released last month, was the star of the event.  In total there were over 20 Stormwalls, plus a Mountain King and Conquest.

One team had 2 Stormwalls in each players army list, a total of 8 Stormwalls in the team.  While one member of Team Avalanche, managed to get to Lock & Load to pick up their Conquest and ninja shop for other items like the Mountain King.

It seemed that no matter which way you turned, there was a Stormwall involved in nearly every match up.

Real Life…..

Been too long since I posted, mostly due to real life kicking the shit out of us.  Still struggling to deal with the issues, but it’s affecting my gaming/painting enthusiasm.  Though recently I have picked up a little, with some new models I got from my PG points; which got painted and played at the tournament in Dundee.

My current main project, is building a Master Necrotech Mortenebra list, from 25 pts which I played in Dundee; to 50pts which I hope to include a Kraken when it is released.  Starting at 25pts I took this Tier 3 list:

  • Master Necrotech Mortenebra
  • Deryliss
  • Deathjack
  • Stalker
  • Stalker
  • Scavenger
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thralls

At the LGS yesterday, I took it up to 35pts; adding in a Harrower.  Feeling this would give me great infantry killing potential, with the 2″ Reach/Thresher on the Harrower.

Ramping it up to Tier 4 50pts, add in a Kraken Colossal; the list for now looks like this:

  • Master Necrotech Mortenebra
  • Deryliss
  • Kraken (Colossal)
  • Deathjack
  • Reaper
  • Stalker
  • Stalker
  • Scavenger
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thralls

With the Kraken in there and benefiting not only from Tier 2 + Tier 4, the Harrower is redundant in this list now.  The Stalker/Scav Assassination Crew (Overrun + Spectral Steel, huge combo for assassinations) are still backed up by the Sirens, while the the DJ and Reaper could potentially be used for zone denial.  Kraken, with Spectral Steel’s ARM buff puts it in the league of Khador jacks.  So now all I have to do, is wait for the Kraken to awaken; so I can test this list out.  Overall, I am excited about the Colossals; I think they bring something the Battle Engines didn’t – Versatility.

Scaverous v Khador

Since buying Lord Exhumator Scaverous last year when the model was released, I have played him a couple of times; even ran him in the Glasgow tournament.  Today I headed down to the shop, for our usual Tuesday night session; where I pulled out Scavvy for a couple of games against Khador.

My opponent, Dougie had brought Sorcha, with two Juggernauts and a Descimator; MoW Demolition and Winter Guard Bombadiers..  Lining up against that……

  • Scavvy
  • Erebus
  • Nightwretch x 2
  • Bloodgorgers (Full)
  • Bane Thralls (Min) + UA
  • Gen Gerlak Slaughterborn
  • Skarlock Thrall
  • Pistol Wraith

Second game was against Irusk, Juggernaut and Destroyer; with MoW Kovnik, Manhunter, Marksman, Assault Kommando’s + WA and WG Infantry + UA/WA.  The only change I made to my previous list, was take out the Pistol Wraith to add in Gorman Di Wulfe.  The reason for this, was I completely forgot about the Pistol Wraith; so was wasted 3 points.

The biggest problem with Scaverous, is that he lacks any kind of punch.  To get the most out of him; you need those Arcnodes to open up charge lanes with Telekinesis.  The ability to turn the model’s back to you, is another great advantage; which can be capitalised on using heavy Jacks or charging Weapon Masters (Bane Thralls).  This is pretty much how I played both games, thought attrition was the killer for me.  Even with two Tough units, the dice were dire today; rolling lots of 1’s.  I messed up the Irusk game, but TK’ing the Juggernaut in a position to back strike Erebus; who was breathing down Irusk’s neck.  Losing him, pretty much ended the assassination attempt.

Overall I am pleased with how the games went, some stupid mistakes; but generally a fast decisive set of games.

Khador Demo Set

As promised, here are better pictures of the finished Khdaor set.  For those attending Carronade tomorrow, these models will be available for demo’s; along with my Cryx and Merc boxsets.

I haven’t got around yet to painting my Legion of Everblight, otherwise I would have Hordes factions on offer too.  Whatever happens, I am looking forward to showing off WM/H to potentially new players.
