Still Painting Away

With just 16 hours till I start heading to the UK Nationals, I am still busy painting models.  This has been hard, long and in many respects; rewarding month (and a bit) of achievements.

With just the final Harrower to finish, I will have painted:

  • Kraken
  • 2 x Seether
  • 2 x Harrowers
  • Malice
  • 4 McThralls
  • Blood Witches (not finished)

That isn’t including the repairs to DJ, Malice Morty; with marking the bases on all the new models painted and ones that I need at the weekend.  Tonight I am going to slowly paint this last Harrower, then get an early night; say about 2am.  So to all those who will face me across the field of battle at the weekend…….please don’t hurt me too much; or you will have my wife to deal with mwaaahhh!

Good games

Went to the last Battleground before the summer break today, managing to fit in two really good games against Jonathan.  I like playing against Jonathan, as he has learned the game really well; better than me in a lot of ways.  He also knows his armies (Retribution and Skorne), very well, so playing against him tests me a lot.

Playing two games, we kicked off with my 35pt Morty list, as mentioned previously; against his 35pt Vyros list.

  • Vyros
  • Phoenix
  • Manticore
  • Mage Hunter Strike Force
  • Mage Hunter Commander
  • Dawnguard Sentinels + UA
  • Sylys Wyshnalyrr

It was a really close game, with the Deathjack munching his way through the Mage Hunters.  Assisted by the Stalkers and Sirens, it was looking to go my way.  Sadly, I got a little over confident and missed an Overrun movement; leaving Morty exposed to the charge of Vyros.  Even with two Free Strikes from Harrower and Warwitch Siren; they couldn’t quite take him out.  Morty dead in a couple of hits, having already taken damage from the Phoenix.

Second game, this time switching to Scavvy; against Xerxis.  Scavvy was running Tier 2 list, with 2 x McThralls + Necrosurgeon/Stitch Thralls.  2 x Nightwretch, 2 x Stalkers, 2 x Warwitch Sirens.  Jonathan had Xerxis, 2 Titan Gladiators, Nihilators, Cetratii and Cyclops Gladiator.  It was a protracted affair, with the McThralls basically slugging it out with anything that came in range.  I am a little disappointed with some things, but definitely need some improvements with this Caster; despite the last minute win.

Good mornings gaming, topped off with a quick couple of turns of Game of Thrones.

Real Life…..

Been too long since I posted, mostly due to real life kicking the shit out of us.  Still struggling to deal with the issues, but it’s affecting my gaming/painting enthusiasm.  Though recently I have picked up a little, with some new models I got from my PG points; which got painted and played at the tournament in Dundee.

My current main project, is building a Master Necrotech Mortenebra list, from 25 pts which I played in Dundee; to 50pts which I hope to include a Kraken when it is released.  Starting at 25pts I took this Tier 3 list:

  • Master Necrotech Mortenebra
  • Deryliss
  • Deathjack
  • Stalker
  • Stalker
  • Scavenger
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thralls

At the LGS yesterday, I took it up to 35pts; adding in a Harrower.  Feeling this would give me great infantry killing potential, with the 2″ Reach/Thresher on the Harrower.

Ramping it up to Tier 4 50pts, add in a Kraken Colossal; the list for now looks like this:

  • Master Necrotech Mortenebra
  • Deryliss
  • Kraken (Colossal)
  • Deathjack
  • Reaper
  • Stalker
  • Stalker
  • Scavenger
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thralls

With the Kraken in there and benefiting not only from Tier 2 + Tier 4, the Harrower is redundant in this list now.  The Stalker/Scav Assassination Crew (Overrun + Spectral Steel, huge combo for assassinations) are still backed up by the Sirens, while the the DJ and Reaper could potentially be used for zone denial.  Kraken, with Spectral Steel’s ARM buff puts it in the league of Khador jacks.  So now all I have to do, is wait for the Kraken to awaken; so I can test this list out.  Overall, I am excited about the Colossals; I think they bring something the Battle Engines didn’t – Versatility.
