Yesterday I received the bags kindly donated to the Scottish Masters, by Battlefoam. All I can say, is that I am jealous of whoever gets one of these bags. They have provided us with two different colours, one in black and the other in the Battlefoam Green. This is the first time I’ve actually got a close look at the trays too, which are really nice. It’s got the softness to the foam that makes abrasion on models less likely; but it has the rigidity where it needs it – the base and sides. Overall I really like the quality and options that Battlefoam offer, there is a reason they are they best; and will be looking to invest in one in the future.
Let me preface this rant, by stating that I have tried everything possible to resolve this; with emails going back to the beginning of August at least.
Ranking HQ was recommended by other PG’s, as a good way to collect money for tournaments; that you didn’t want paid ‘on the door’. With the Scottish Masters, I hoped to use it to help fund it; either through invoicing or paying directly through Paypal. As it turns out, every single penny spent on this so far, has come out of my pocket; with still a couple more items to be purchased.
Now I’m ok with this, it comes with being a PG. However, that isn’t the point, Ranking HQ have failed both the players who have paid, as well as myself.
I have emailed them 3 times, asking for 2 simple pieces of information
How and when is the money transferred to the nominated Paypal account?
How does the ticket system of Ranking HQ deal with refunds for players who drop out?
There is not one thing on the site that states this, not one FAQ that would easily avoid this kind of situation. Sadly I can’t even get a single answer on their ‘Tavern’, it’s almost like its some secret society and I don’t know the silly walk and handshake; to be able to get the answers I need. I mean come on, this is your business, right now they are only missing the Stetsons and spurs; to complete the image of cowboys.
So would I recommend Ranking HQ? I wouldn’t trust them to organise a lunch break, let alone trust them with the players in Scotland.
I have to apologise to Ste, the owner of Bases4War; for the delay in posting up something about his contribution to the event. I recently suffered a mild TIA, which in simple terms is a form of stroke. Unfortunately it has had other effects on my health, which have put me behind on a lot of things.
Ste send us over 50 bases, in 40mm and 50mm sizes. They are perfect for wreck markers, so it is the plan to give some of these away to ever player who attends the Scottish Masters. I’ll be doing a review of them later, when I get some time to do some painting; but I can safely say that the quality is way beyond what the website shows. I’ll be looking into getting some of these myself, in the future. Just to tease you a little, here is one of each base size.
I mentioned previously looking for scenic bases, partly for the Scottish Masters; but also for myself. I’ve just placed an order with Bases4War, for some bases for the Scottish Masters.
I had contacted Ste about helping with the Scottish Masters, he kindly offered a 20% discount on anything in the store. Rather than give one player the 20%, I’ve ordered a selection of the bases; with some extras to be given away as spot prizes throughout the day.
With Gen Con over, we should (hopefully) get word back on the logo design; so we can get the last pieces of this sorted.
During a quiet moment from painting, I started looking for scenic bases; as these seem to have exploded onto the modellers world with full force. Micro Art Studio is a small Polish manufacturer, who has some amazing bases and scenery.
Designed with most game systems in mind, there is some focus on items specifically for Infinity. For WM/H players though, there are all the usual sizes and some 120mm bases; which is what caught my attention.
I got an email this morning from Kacper, the designer and owner of Micro Art Studios; generously contributing some items for the Scottish Masters. He will be sending some items over shortly, so from all the Scottish Masters team; thank you.
