Worlds Gaming Day Update

Next Sunday is the Worlds Gaming Day, which is approaching at a fast rate of knots.  First up, is that tickets are no longer available for this event.  With an average of 18 players in all three tournaments, it’s going to be a busy day.

Another thing that is still ongoing, is prize support/donations to the event; which we have just had another fantastic donation from KR Multicase.  I can attest to the quality of these cases, having had an Aquila one for nearly 2 years.  It was my main WM/H for a long while, until the models acquired outgrew the case itself.  That isn’t to say it is sitting gathering dust though, it is still being used weekly, to transport primed/semi painted minis to the shop or the club.  With the softer foam, it doesn’t rub off the paint; so I don’t need to keep retouching the paint.

So with support from Worlds at WarFlorian Stitz and Privateer Press, this event is shaping up to be a great day for everyone.

Upcoming Events

26th August – Intrepidations, Perth 35pts SR2012 – Once again up to blustery Perth for a tournament. Hoping to have Gapsy3 ready by then, but if not I’ll fall back to my trusted Morty and A N Other caster.

8th Sept – ELG, Edinburgh 35pt SR2012. This will be part of a slow grow league that ELG are running just now. While they are trying to keep it within the club, they have opened it up to non-members. If your interested, visit the site – Edinburgh League of Gamers

9th Sept – Worlds at War, Livingston – 50pt SR2012 (2 list, D&C & Chess Clock) This will be the first time I have run this format, but it looked really interesting when I saw it at the ETC’s.

Buses

Ok, you’re probably thinking I have finally lost it.  What has buses got to do with WM/H?  Well it’s all to do with the old say “If you wait long enough, three will come along”, or at least something like that anyway.

Having just finished the April Annihilation event, I am now working feverishly on the Worlds Gaming Day event.  As this is a charity event, I have started to look for donations for a raffle or something similar; so we can raise even more money for the chosen charity of the British Legion.  Only just started today, but already we have a donation offer from someone; who we will reveal shortly.

There is still time to get tickets for this event, no matter what system you play; as there is going to be Flames of War, Warmachine/Hordes and WH 40K.  Just head over to the Worlds at War website for more details.

Dates for Diaries

I thought March was busy, April and May are going to be mental.

April 21st – April Annihilation.  A 35pt SR2012 event at Worlds at War, Livingston.  There is space for 16 players, but this may well be the last 16 player tournament held in the shop.  Frank the owner has done a lot for the WM/H (and general gaming) in the area, but now feels he needs to cater to the needs of the business better.  With the closure of the local GW shop, he is looking to help those players out by stocking a small amount of their gaming needs.  This means cutting back on the gaming tables, to make room for some changes.  Next Worlds at War tournament will most likely be 12 players max.

May 6th – Chaos of the Warp 3.  CotW started in December 2011, to bring a more fun side to the game of 40K.  Since then, they have run several tournaments, which they are now expanding out to other systems.  CotW 3 will include Warmachine/Hordes, where I will be running a 35pt SR2012 (2 list Divide & Conquer) event.  Space is limited to 10 spaces, but players can buy tickets in advance ahead of time at the Cotw website.

Last up the big one….

20th May – Worlds Game Day. Worlds at War will be combining Flames of War and WM/H into one event.  Running tournaments of both on the same day, in some really nice surroundings at Howden Park Centre.  If you would like tickets, they should be bought in advance from the shop website (Worlds at War).  For those interested in the WM/H section, it will be as follows:

Date – 20th May 2012
Players Spaces – up to 32
No. of Rounds – 4 Rounds (up to 16 players)
5 Round (16+ Players)

Round 1 – 35 pts
Round 2 – 35 pts
Round 3 – 35 pts
Round 4 – 35 pts (16+ Players) or 50 pts (less than 16 players)
Round 5 – 50 pts (16+ Players ONLY)

For all rounds of 35 pts, you will require 2 lists, under the standard SR 2012 (Character Restrictions apply).

For the final 50 pts, there is only ONE list needed. This army does NOT need to meet Character Restriction criteria. This is an all or nothing last game, so choose your army wisely.

As I said, this is going to be a massive day for all concerned; not just the organising of it.  I should also point out, all profits from ticket sales, etc will be going to the British Legion.  Prize support is coming from both Worlds at War or from donations of prizes.   It is hoped these events will be bi-annual; but we will see how this one goes first.  Depending on demand, Frank has also been talking about adding in either 40K or Malifaux as well.

Skirmish 2012 *Update*

Last night, I had a meeting with the organisers of Skirmish 2012; which has turned out to be very productive and beneficial for all involved.

First up, I want to say thank you to John; for agreeing to meet with me over some concerns I had with Skirmish.  We have ironed these out, to the point that I have been asked to help out.  So what goodness and goodies can we expect so far from Skirmish 2012.

  • Blood Bowl

A big thank you to Geoff at Chaos of the Warp, for committing to run, not just the 40K; but also bring a Blood Bowl tournament to the event.  With other things in the works, that will be nearly 100 players turning up; just for the tournaments alone.

Skirmish isn’t just going to be about the tournaments though, there are hopes of getting vendors and traders here as well as demonstrations of other games.  With this in mind, we are in negotiation with Pyre Studios; who hope to bring some of their games as well as demo them on the day.
