In the build up to the Nationals, I find myself in two minds. On the one hand, there is the part that just wants to go have a good time and play some games. The other part of me is competitive, so wants to do the best I can.
One of the problems I have though, is that being a PG; I haven’t had much chance to play. My knowledge is rusty and I really need an intense refresher course in even the basics of the game. This makes me nervous about facing some of the best players in the UK, ill prepared to play.
Another problem, is army lists. My first inclination is to go with Casters I know and love – Mortenebra and the Witch Coven. I’d like to run eSkarre or pDenny, but can’t decide which one to run. pDenny I am more familiar with, but Skarre is just so much fun to play.
So this week I’m going to post up some potential lists I will be looking at over the two tournaments leading up to the Nationals.
Well as the title suggest, progress on the models needed for the Nationals is coming along. I took a break yesterday, as
Ran out of glue
Using a hand drill on small pieces is killing my hands (Who designed the Iron Lich Overseer; they need to be shot)
Trying to avoid burn out, this early on in the process.
So for now here is pictures of the first Harrower, as well as WiP shot of the 1st Seether in the background. Yes you might have guessed by now, red is my favourite colour; which is why I am dreading the Kraken when I get around to it.
A few pictures of the Raider leader model, painted but not based yet. Have to say I struggled with this model, as I had problems thinking of a colour scheme. In the end, I decided to go with something similar to the Epic Skarre I painted recently.
Since signing up for the Nationals, I have come to the realisation that I have a mammoth amount of work to do. If you’ve not been to Warmachine/Hordes tournament, the format is usually 2 army lists, with other criteria determining what you can include in each army.
In a Masters event like the UK Nationals, the criteria will be:
3 army lists
Play each list once
No Reinforcements or Specialists
So this presents me with a huge amount of painting to do, as while it isn’t a requirement; having 3 fully painted armies will be great on the table. To this end, I have still to paint:
Last year the decision was made to take the UK Nationals out of the UK Games Expo and create something more in keeping with the American events like Lock and Load.
On 29th – 30th June, the first ever UK Nationals will take place; with 128 player tournament; as well as the Iron Gauntlet qualifier. For those not familiar with the new Iron Gauntlet, the UK Nationals will be the last place (this year) to be able to qualify for essentially the World Championships of Warmachine/Hordes.
It’s been a tough decision, but I have booked my hotel and bought my ticket and I will be going down to Stockport to play in the UK Nationals. I don’t expect to do well, but it is more for the experience of it. As of this time there was still 15 spots left, so if you fancy taking on some of the UK’s best players; head over to this thread on Warhammer Forum.
