#PP Heap – Pedal to the Metal Mayhem

Well the game isn’t officially out yet, but to help get the game exposure; Privateer Press have allowed the Press Gang to pre-order a set.  This is really exciting as it is for me, the first time of getting something ahead of the general release (in August).  I’ll be doing demo’s of the game, which looks like a lot of fun; at my LGS as well as Claymore next month.

So what is Heap?

It’s a card game for 2 – 4 players, where players attempt to build; bodge and scrap together the ultimate scrap yard vehicle.  With 4 different vehicles to choose between, the race is on to upgrade them from the scrap pile of parts; while fending off your opponents for all the best scrap.

The Vehicles

Doombuggy, Gyrohopper, Scrap Hog and the Bigg Rigg.  Each one has strengths and weaknesses, which can be helped by adding parts from the Heap.

The Parts

From the Heap, each player gets to upgrade (add cards to) their vehicles; to help in their quest to win the Pile Up.  Each card has different abilities and could affect the player or their opponents. However with the game being every player for themselves, watch out for underhanded tactics that could damage your vehicles parts.

Why take my word for it, watch the video to see how this madness plays out.  Look out for demos in your local gaming store in coming weeks.

#ScottishWMH

Just updated the Upcoming Events list, which some of you will notice there is little time to breath between events at this time of the year.

This is in part due to the fantastic player base that is building up in Scotland for Warmachine/Hordes.  The Colossal Launch event on 15th July, was posted up on our Scottish WM/H pages; within a week we had 12 players signed up.  We now have 17 and with just over a week, we can’t fit any more into the shop (12 player spaces max).

With other venues/stores opening up, this is a great time to be getting into the game.  We even have another Press Ganger in Glasgow, Scott Burry; who will be working with Spellbound Games in Glasgow to promote the game there as well.  For those going to the ETC’s at the weekend, I’ll look forward to meeting some of you.  Just look out for The Mad Scotsman, sans the kilt.

Chaos of the Warp 4

Well it was an interested weekend, with the first time WM/H was played at a Chaos of the Warp event.

  • 8 players
  • 35pt Army Lists (Divide and Conquer)
  • …..Night Fighting

Night fighting? Yea, unfortunately the venue is a night club; so lighting wasn’t something we had a lot of as this photo shows.

While it wasn’t good, the biggest problem was seeing things on the end tables. Not that it deterred the players, who battled on; despite the gloominess.

As you can see from the last pictures, out of 8 players; 3 had painted Stormwall Colossals with them for the event.  The Stormwall seemed to be popular with players, with pKane and Kara Sloan lists using it on the day.

Overall a great day, some minor problems; but as a TO it ran smoother than my fears had anticipated.  Weekend number 1 done (potentially 4 back to back weekend tournaments), this coming weekend the Big One – The European Team Championships.

Real Life…..

Been too long since I posted, mostly due to real life kicking the shit out of us.  Still struggling to deal with the issues, but it’s affecting my gaming/painting enthusiasm.  Though recently I have picked up a little, with some new models I got from my PG points; which got painted and played at the tournament in Dundee.

My current main project, is building a Master Necrotech Mortenebra list, from 25 pts which I played in Dundee; to 50pts which I hope to include a Kraken when it is released.  Starting at 25pts I took this Tier 3 list:

  • Master Necrotech Mortenebra
  • Deryliss
  • Deathjack
  • Stalker
  • Stalker
  • Scavenger
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thralls

At the LGS yesterday, I took it up to 35pts; adding in a Harrower.  Feeling this would give me great infantry killing potential, with the 2″ Reach/Thresher on the Harrower.

Ramping it up to Tier 4 50pts, add in a Kraken Colossal; the list for now looks like this:

  • Master Necrotech Mortenebra
  • Deryliss
  • Kraken (Colossal)
  • Deathjack
  • Reaper
  • Stalker
  • Stalker
  • Scavenger
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thralls

With the Kraken in there and benefiting not only from Tier 2 + Tier 4, the Harrower is redundant in this list now.  The Stalker/Scav Assassination Crew (Overrun + Spectral Steel, huge combo for assassinations) are still backed up by the Sirens, while the the DJ and Reaper could potentially be used for zone denial.  Kraken, with Spectral Steel’s ARM buff puts it in the league of Khador jacks.  So now all I have to do, is wait for the Kraken to awaken; so I can test this list out.  Overall, I am excited about the Colossals; I think they bring something the Battle Engines didn’t - Versatility.
