Dundee Training SR

Well today was a trip to Dundee, for the first of two events leading up to the Nationals.  Due to the store owner flying out to Vegas, I was asked to run the event for them.

17 players, should normally have been 5 rounds; but the owner asked for this to be cut to 3 rounds due to various aspects.  If nothing else it allowed players who were attending the Nationals, to test all three of their lists.  Sadly I wasn’t one of them, due to not having the Malice card; as well as a second Machine Wraith.

My lists for the day were: (sorry for the lack of pictures, phone died after the first game; after using it as a chess clock timer)

  • Mortenebra + Deryliss (Tier 4 Infernal Machines)
  • Deathjack
  • Seether
  • Seether
  • Harrower
  • Scavenger
  • Stalker x 2
  • Warwitch Siren x 2
  • Necrotech + Scrap Thrall
  • Scrap Thrall

Other list was one I put together, just so I could run the Kraken today.

  • Warwitch Deneghra
  • Skarlock Thrall
  • Kraken
  • Seether
  • Deathripper x 2
  • Warwitch Siren
  • Mechanithralls (10) x 2
  • Necrosurgeon + Stitch x 2
  • Necrotech + Scrap

First game was against Bloody Barnabas, which was just a slugfest, drawn out and hard fought on both battle.  I ran Denny in this game, hoping the Kraken would come good against the masses of Posse.  Sadly this didn’t pan out with the dice, who seemed to roll good one minute; then absolutely dire the next.  Taking a risk, exposing Denny a little more than I should; in the hopes of ending the game before I timed out.  Loss via Assassination, with 1 CP claimed; Destruction scenario.

Second game was Nemo (can’t remember which), Stormwall, Rowdy and Thunderhead; as the main forces.  I put up Morty this time, figuring that the best way to deal with any Colossal is to ignore it; in favour of speed.  The other reason is I just love playing Morty, who can when done right get an assassination out of nowhere.  As it turned out, this is pretty much how it happened, with Stalkers flanking, Seethers and Scavenger working the Overrun play; to put the Seether in Nemo’s face for the win. Win via Assassination, no CP (domination foiled by a Storm Pod); Outflank scenario.

Last game was Morty v Ossyan, not the best match up and it showed in the end with the Seether assassination foiled by Admonition.  Scrambling to claim control points left Morty exposed to MHSF, Destor and Ossyan.  If not for Admonition, it would have hurt Ossyan a fair bit.  Loss via Assassination, 1 CP: Incursion scenario.

June Oath Complete

Painting Oaths has been a positive influence, not just to my painting; but also my personal life.  So to have this group pushing me and making me grow as a painter, has been a tremendous benefit to me.  This month has been the hardest month so far, with regards to model choice and the sheer effort it has taken; to master even a little of the skill involved in freehand.  There is no way I would have done it without this group, so thanks again guys and gals.

So the month started out like this:

Barring some touch ups and completing the base, my oath is complete for June.  Included is freehand work for the Secret Ingredient, of Skull and 2 Cryx faction symbols (10 images):

Make it stop…..

The pressure of trying to paint these models in time, is starting to get to me.  My main focus seems to be on the Kraken just now, to the point that the Blood Hags are just being left unfinished just now.  That said, the Kraken *should* be ready for action this weekend in Dundee; with perhaps one last hard push I can have if finished tomorrow or Friday.

In other news I have decided on the following Casters; at least for the time being.  The choices were mostly because of knowledge of the Casters and my enjoyment of playing them.  Of them all, Morty is my favourite; having DJ and 2 Seethers for an opponent to contend with under Morty’s feat/spells; it so much fun.

  • Mortenebra (+ Deryliss) – Tier 4 (Infernal Machines)
  • pDeneghra – Non Tier
  • The Witch Coven of Ghalgast (+ Egregore) – Tier 4 (Machine Minds)

Just to remind everyone what my DJ looks like…..Mwaaaahhh!

RL Sucks

Apologies for lack of updates and pics of the models I am painting.  This is due  to the vagaries of the welfare system in the UK, in respect to how easily someone can screw you over with a simple mistake.  It’s taken nearly a week to get everything set back on track again.

So painting has been an ‘as and when’ kind of week, with the Blonde (Blood) Witches half finished; and some more work on the Kraken.  I had gotten the ‘leg’ section painted the previous week, but with all the issues; I haven’t had time to post it up.

As the Kraken is to be my Oath for June, I am including the Secret Ingredient (Freehand) on as much as I can.  Now given the size of the Kraken, I think painting the thing with a brush should count as freehand *grins*.

Ok, ok it was worth a chance.  So if you won’t accept a hand painted Kraken, I guess I will just have to give you this little piece of freehand completed today.

I’ll admit, I have never considered myself an award winning painter; but I am really blown away by how good this looks.  Especially considering, this is what I originally wanted on that carapace.

Painting Progress

Just over 3 days ago I finished the first Harrower, since then I have had a painting frenzy; with not just one; but 4 models painted.

The Seether, which could be seen in the background of the Harrower pictures; had been started.  However due to trying something new, it didn’t turn out the way I wanted.  I used the Vallejo Crackle Medium on the red sections, with a necrotite green base coat.  It didn’t crackle as good as I had hoped, so had to improvise a little……or strip it completely.  Given the time constraints, I decided to salvage it as best I could.

Next up the two Iron Lich Overseers, which were a massive pain in the ass.  If you come to buy these, make sure you pin that tail piece well; as it was the only piece to give me issues.

Finally the Blood Hag, finished today.  I really do hate painting flesh tones, no matter what model I am painting (humanoid or beast).  That said, I think this turned out reasonably well in the end.

Already started on the Blood Witches, though again ‘flesh tones’; which added to a full unit equals brain shutting down.  Had enough for the day, going to head off to New Eden* to kill some rats.

*Eve Online, for those not familiar with the game.
